Houdin END RECORDED HISTORY
"Houdin" represents the Duke of Abruzzi's expedition, and he was imported direct
from Archangel. He is the police dog, and is allowed free run of the yard and garden at
night, because of his lovely growl; for he seldom barks, and so is just the dog to guard a
house.
He plants bones all over the premises, and takes up the convenient attitude of assuming
that anyone moving about at night is after his bones. A trespasser hearing him growl is
not likely to remain.
